Historically Accepted

We are told to judge based upon the times at hand
We see judgement being dished out retroactively
Have the times been blind?
Has the foresight been lifted from the eyes of those passed?

Somehow unique to those alive
No amount of context can excuse
A present-day atrocity

We used to die at 30
Marriage at 13
No wonder we’re divorced by 40
A soul not meant for exponential extension
Finds flaws in life’s intentions
Where no heart sees exceptions

Yet

An internal deception
Hides the personal inflections
A history of faulty needs
Alongside unworthy attempts to feed
A mind struck with self-aggrandizing virtue

We are not better than those
We deem bled out the planet
Leaving that hose on for centuries to come

Though the physical seems more probable
Though the trauma seems more palpable
Though the world in our palm seems acceptable
Not much has changed on this planet of exploitation and greed

Take a look at the dirt soaking our feet before we judge those buried beneath our streets
